What to Expect

Sunday Morning Times: Bible Classes begin at 9:00am. Fellowship Time & Coffee begins at 10:00. Worship Service Begins at 10:30.

Diversity: One of the aspects of the Long Beach Church that we celebrate is vast diversity.  You will notice men and women of all ages from just a few months to close to 100 years of age.  You will also see many different races represented as well as socio-economic diversity.  Our men dress casually as well as in suits.  Our ladies wear dresses and come more casually as well.  There is one main unifying factor however, we are all seeking to learn more about God and how to glorify Him.

Worship Assembly:  Upon entering the Worship Area you should be handed a bulletin, which contains a great deal of information.  On the inside in the upper left corner you will see the "Today's Praise & Worship."  This is our order of worship for the day.  It gives the songs that will be sung as well as other things that will be done during the service. Our worship begins at 10:30am.

Singing:  As soon as the praise portion of the service begins you will notice that we sing without the use of musical instruments.  This is called "a cappella" singing.  Acappella singing is a long held tradition of the Long Beach Church of Christ.  We invite you to participate in the praise time along with us.  During some of the songs you may see some raising of hands or clapping.  You will see the words and the music projected on the screen in the front of the auditorium.  Our worship leader along with our praise team will direct our praise time.

Prayers:  In each service we offer a number of public prayers.  There is usually a time of personal prayer and reflection followed by a public prayer.  You may desire one of our Shepherds to privately pray for you. If that is the case, please let one of the men in the foyer know at the end of the service and they will direct you.

The Lord's Supper:  The Lord's Supper, also called communion, is a time for self examination and covenant renewal for those who believe in Jesus Christ.  We have a time of reflection led by one of our men and a prayer for the bread.  Trays with the bread are passed, and believers in Christ Jesus should feel free to break a piece of the bread and partake, remembering the broken body of Jesus for our sin.  Then there will be a prayer for the juice (nonalcoholic grape juice).  It is then passed; all believers should take a cup drink and place the cup back in the tray for disposal.

The Offering:  Immediately following the Lord's Supper we have a time of offering.  This is a time for members of the Long Beach Church of Christ to give in thankfulness to God for what they have been given.  This financial support goes to fund ministry here in Long Beach as well as around the world.  If you are a guest please do not feel in anyway compelled to give.

Children's Church:  Just after the offering and before the sermon there will be an opportunity for children to go to Kids' Bible Time (KBT) for ages 3-5 or King's Kids for grades 1st - 5th.  The screen will show the time for the children to go.  Your children are also welcome to stay with you in the worship time.

Sermon:  Each Sunday you will hear a sermon from the Bible.  These messages are usually preached by our minister, Geron Bryan.  We believe that the word of God is our final authority for faith and practice.  If you have any questions about what is preached feel free to discuss your questions with Geron or one of the Shepherds after the service or call the church office during the week.

Pastors & Shepherds Availability:  Our Pastors and Shepherds (also called Elders) are usually available before the service starts as well as at the end of the service.  We do have a very comfortable room set up specifically for prayer and council.  You may also call the office during the week to speak with a pastor.

Attended Nursery:  We have an attended nursery available for your conveniance.  You may leave your child (0 to 2 1/2 years) or stay with your child as you see fit.
